Common questions

YAGT requires iOS 17 or later and a working microphone on an iPhone or iPad.

YAGT can’t hear my instrument

Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and make sure YAGT is enabled. Return to YAGT, select the correct tuning, mute the other strings, and pluck one open string cleanly.

The room is noisy or the meter keeps reacting

Press and hold unused space on the tuner for about a second, stay quiet during the short measurement, and wait for the Calibrated confirmation. You can also use Settings → Calibrate to Room Noise or lower microphone sensitivity.

The tuner selected the wrong string

Mute the other strings and let the note settle after a clean pluck. You can tap the intended string to lock it manually, then tap it again to return to automatic detection.

How do I create a custom tuning?

Open the tuning picker, choose Add Custom Tuning, give it a name, and select the note and octave for each string. Swipe an existing custom tuning to edit or delete it.

Does YAGT upload or save microphone audio?

No. Pitch analysis happens in memory on your device. YAGT does not save or transmit microphone recordings and does not collect personal data.

Privacy policy

This policy explains how YAGT — Yet Another Guitar Tuner handles information.

Information we collect

YAGT does not collect personal information, analytics, advertising identifiers, location, contacts, account details, or usage history. The app has no backend, user accounts, analytics SDK, advertising network, or crash-reporting service.

Microphone access

YAGT uses the microphone to analyze live pitch. Audio buffers are processed in memory on your device for tuning and are not intentionally recorded, saved, uploaded, or shared.

Photos access

If you choose a custom background, Apple’s system photo picker lets you select an image. The chosen background is stored locally in YAGT’s app container. YAGT does not upload it or browse the rest of your photo library.

Information stored on your device

Preferences, custom tunings, calibration choices, and an optional custom background are stored locally so they remain available between sessions. Deleting YAGT removes data held in its app container.

Sharing and external links

If you choose Share YAGT, the app gives its public App Store link to the standard iOS share sheet. The destination app or service you select has its own privacy practices. This website also links to Apple’s App Store and Instagram, whose policies apply when you visit them.

Children’s privacy

Because YAGT does not collect personal information, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Policy changes

If YAGT’s data practices change, this policy will be updated before the change is released. The effective date above identifies the latest revision.
